The Waverly Wrestling Club (WWC) is a community based program open to all youth from Waverly, Eagle and the surrounding communities in District 145. The Club is run by volunteers who dedicate their time to the sport of wrestling. The club has a board of directors that oversees the program to ensure the kids are receiving the best experience possible.
WWC will have two practices each week during the season. We break the kids into three groups: Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten; 1st grade and 2nd grade; 3rd grade – 5th grade; 6th grade – 8th grade. The practices are focused on folk-style wrestling, covering: top, bottom and neutral positions. All sessions will include technique, gymnastics, live wrestling, conditioning and competitive skill games. The club also hosts a wrestling clinic during the summer and is designed to introduce the sport of wrestling to newcomers as well as reinforce fundamental wrestling skills to the experienced wrestler. During the season, Waverly Wrestling Club hosts a tournament which is the financial lifeline of the club. This tournament provides the funding that keeps wrestling dues low and allows us to purchase awards. Parent participation in the tournament is essential.
The goal of the Waverly Wrestling Club is to teach the fundamental skills of wrestling to each participant and develop teamwork, discipline, self-confidence, fitness and sportsmanship. Wrestlers of all skill levels from beginner to experienced will benefit from becoming a member of the Waverly Wrestling Club. On weekends, the team will enter several local wrestling tournaments, regional tournaments as well as some national level tournaments. Wrestlers will be encouraged but not required to participate in the tournaments. The local tournaments generally group kids into four man brackets based on weight and experience level and will compete in a round robin format to win medals or trophies.
